About
Christos Kalkanis was born in Athens in September 1983 where he now works as a clarinetist, clarinet teacher, composer, performer and occasionally keyboardist. He received his Diploma in Clarinet from the State Conservatory of Thessaloniki in 2009 studying under professor G. Kazikos. He then got his Bachelor’s degree in 2010 from the Department of Music Science and Art of the University of Macedonia in Thessaloniki, specializing in clarinet interpretation and classical music under the guidance of professor M. Moumoulidis. In 2017 he received his Master’s Degree with honors from the same university, specializing in performance and interpretation of the clarinet with supervising professor M. Moumoulidis.

As a classical clarinet player, he has been a member of various philharmonic and symphonic orchestras in Athens, Patras and Thessaloniki since 2004 under the conductors: K. Papazoglou, K. Zarimpas, N. Psaltopoulos and Th. Skarlatos. Since 2010 he is a professor of clarinet at Musical High Schools in different cities: Alimos, Piraeus, Korinthos and Patras.

At the same time Christos Kalkanis has been also performing and composing music for the Theatre with great collaborations such as the Greek National Theatre, the director Nikaiti Kontouri etc. He is currently a member of the band of Spyros Grammenos and has been also giving live concerts and doing studio recordings for famous artists such as: Evanthia Rempoutsika, Eleonora Zouganeli, Ghost Notes, Panos Mouzourakis, Night and Day, Mihalis Kalkanis and others.

This year among live concerts, classes and recordings, he is in the process of composing music for the dance performance “ANY ONE” choreographed by Artemis Lampiri funded by the Greek State, he is a performer and solo clarinetist for the play of Arthur Miller “A view from the bridge” directed by Nikaiti Kontouri and presented at the Greek National Theatre.
